Brasilia (DF) – The Chamber of Deputies hosted the International Seminar: Women Family Farmers – sowing a more prosperous, egalitarian and sustainable future, bringing together leaders, institutions and representatives of civil society to discuss the role of women in building a fairer and more inclusive rural development.
This initiative is part of the actions commemorating the International Year of Rural Women, established by the UN, and reinforces the importance of recognizing, valuing, and strengthening the role of women in family farming and solidarity-based cooperatives.
The seminar was led by federal deputy Ribeiro Neto and featured the active participation of the Women's Secretariat of Unicafes Brazil, as well as representatives from Unicafes GO/DF, contributing to the accumulation of experiences and the advocacy of public policies aimed at rural women.
During the meeting, key themes were discussed such as economic autonomy, access to public policies, equal rights, addressing gender inequalities, and strengthening women's participation in decision-making spaces.
The discussions highlighted that women family farmers are key players in food production, environmental preservation, and the construction of more sustainable local economies, playing a fundamental role in food security and territorial development.
Unicafes Brasil's participation highlighted the role of solidarity-based cooperatives as a strategic instrument to promote productive inclusion, expand income opportunities, and strengthen the organization of women in rural areas.
Through cooperatives, female family farmers gain access to markets, training, technical assistance, and spaces for political participation, consolidating their autonomy and leadership.
The seminar reaffirmed the need to increase investments, strengthen public policies, and ensure conditions so that more women can carry out their activities with dignity, recognition, and opportunities.
More than just a space for debate, the meeting represented a call to action for building a rural development model based on equality, sustainability, and well-being.
Unicafes Brasil remains committed to strengthening women family farmers, recognizing their importance in building a more just, supportive, and sustainable Brazil.
